Educational Storytime for children

May parents find it a challenge to get their little ones engaged in learning. As a parent I found the easiest way was to make it fun and let the child lead in terms of what interests them. In the last 6 years this had led to topics on London, Big Ben, churches, bridges, transport, trains in particular, planets, countries and different food groups to name a few. The surprising part is I never sat down and said lets learn. No, all this was my daughter asking to know more about these topics. It’s an interesting journey.

We also read lots of books. In fact we have so many they have taken over and quite a few are in piles around the house with no place to go! One day we decided that we could share our love of books and give others a chance to learn through them. What makes that fun? Well books are fun but so are favourite characters. At the moment we are sharing new stories every day. You can check  us out on our Vidme channel  Ready Teddy Storytime

Not only can you find stories but you can read along with us and take part in the activities at the end of some books like Topsy and Tim or Bing bunny. We have lots of Cbeebies characters and old favourites like Thomas The Tank Engine and Miffy. We also cover all topics. Abc, 123, colours, shapes, weather. There are pop up books and sound books. We even help with potty training.  At the moment we have 35 stories to choose from with more coming soon. Don’t forget Halloween is coming and we have some of the best stories already waiting for you. We hope you can join us.

Tears and grazes with the Paw Patrol

It’s not been an easy time for us lately. A child with a cough is one thing, being unable to breathe during a coughing spell is quite another. Unfortunately its also what my daughter is dealing with at the moment. The good news is we have medicine and she is likely going to be back her usual self soon. (I hope.)

It was during our wait at the chemist we found the Paw Patrol First Aid Kit.

At first glance I thought ‘Oh we have Paw Patrol plasters at home. We don’t need this’.

I was wrong. We bought it because my daughter loves Paw Patrol and the extra would come in handy. Just look at what you get.

Includes 40 components.

  • 14 finger plasters
  • 6 large plasters
  • 2 graze plasters
  • 1 forehead thermometer
  • 4 dressing pads
  • 1 pair tweezers
  • 6 cleansing wipes
  • 6 character stickers

All in a resealable packet. It’s also great value at £1.90 lloyds chemist. As I have found it’s also a novelty feature and have lost a few of the stickers for fun. I would highly recommend this for all little Paw Patrollers.

A World Of Silence – Selective Mutism

Have you ever had a dream where you try to scream and can’t? Can you imagine that feeling in everyday life? I can and I did most days. From the age of 3 I have suffered from a condition which I never knew the name of or indeed had a diagnosis for. Years later at the age of 33 I finally found out. I had been suffering from a condition called Selective Mutism. Finally I had a name and could answers for a LOT of things that plaqued me growing up.

It appears to be rather common but not well known condition. Unfortunately for me and many others there is never a diagnosis believing it only to be extreme shyness. If left untreated it can lead to further problems. For me it has improved but I still have social anxiety which means I cannot feel as comfortable as others in social gatherings, public speaking and crowds. This is more complicated than it sounds.

So what is Selective Mutism. Well it varies but it is a form of anxiety and is thought to be genetic. I also want to clear up a common misconception. Its not that we cannot speak, rather that our bodies will not allow us to in certain situations. Literally as if our bodies have us trapped inside them. The anxiety takes hold and the panic rises. With the right help it can be cured. Its difficult to write this as it can affect people differently so I am leaving a link below for more information. Its hard to share the contents of a daily basis lasting 31 years and counting in a single post! I will try to write more about this in future updates. Im still on my own journey but have come a long way. If it can help others, in particular children and their parents, then it will have made my stuggle seem a little easier. It can be cured and I did progress without help so imagine how far you can go with the help.
